FIRST THREE PHOTOGRAPHS OF PEOPLE, or, PEOPLE-RELATED IMAGERY

About this Photograph: Small metal milk pots are hooked to the back of a Hindu devotee. The milk pots have fish hook-like needles that are pierced into the skin, so the pots hang from the devotee’s skin. It is considered a sort of physical burden in pursuit of atonement. This ritual is performed during the Hindu celebration of Thaipusam. © 2013 Nawfal Johnson. All Rights Reserved.

I’m going to spend a few posts showing my PHOTOGRAPHS OF PEOPLE, which is the term my favourite People Photographer, Arnold Newman, preferred over the word, Portraiture. I think my People Photography is just that, photographs of people….Doing stuff. I wouldn’t classify my people work as formal. I am publishing some of my people images in my blog in sets of three, and they are random: I have not stuck to any coherent groupings. I have photographs of People in Religious Events & Celebrations, Candids of People on the Street, Dance Photography, Entertainer Photography, VIP Photography, and others. Many people who visit my blogs probably have no idea that I have photographed people, but I have….A lot. My primary photography love will always be Stage & Dance Photography.

This dude was just banging the crap out of this umbrella while the other guy…assisted in the beating. To what ends, I am unaware. They both seemed pleased with their progress, however. © 2012 Nawfal Johnson. All Rights Reserved.
I photographed a Hindu couple’s wedding: It was a colourful and interesting experience. © 2012 Nawfal Johnson. All Rights Reserved.
